A WOMAN OUT FOR BLOOD

Nicole Martin was only eight years old when the vampire slaves rose up in rebellion and killed her family. Now she devotes her life to finding a vaccine against vampirism, hoping to wipe out her memories—along with every bloodsucker on the planet. But there’s one thing she cannot destroy: her searing, undeniable attraction for the one man she should hate and fear the most . . .

A VAMPIRE OUT FOR REVENGE

A member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clan, Riker is haunted by demons of his own. When he recognizes Nicole and remembers how her family enslaved his loved ones, his heart burns for vengeance. But when he kidnaps Nicole and holds her in a secret lair, his mortal enemy becomes his soul obsession, his greatest temptation, and, perhaps, his only salvation—a hot-blooded lover who could heal him with her touch . . . or bury him forever.

My Thoughts

New vampire series by well loved paranormal romance author? I'm sold. The take on vampirism sounded a bit different, and that was definately a selling point for me too. That, and let's face it, I just love to read about vampires.

Riker: You know, he could be an ass. Not in a protective alpha male ass. But just an ass. He was so stuck in guilt and hate that sometimes it was like he couldn't see past the nose on his face. He had good reason, because humans brutalized, traumatized and murdered his wife, but at times I didn't see the light at the end of the tunnel for him and Nicole. That said, he's a man of his word and I knew he wasn't going to let anyone hurt Nicole. Things were bad for MoonBound clan, but Riker wasn't sacrificing Nicole for anything. And this is what I liked about this series: vampires are aligned to particular clans, almost like packs, and these clans have their own political battles to wage on top of the fact that humans like to hunt and enslave vampires. I'm curious to see how this will play out in later books, now that Hunter is going to be far more closely aligned with ShadowSpawn clan.

Nicole: I liked that she stood up for herself. She accepted the horrible things her company had done, accepted that she had trusted people she shouldn't have who had done horrible things to vampires. She'd never liked vampires after they killed her family and brutalized her, but she did work to use vampires to further human medicine in a way that was not ethical. And Nicole doesn't try and deny this reality. She fights with Riker, because after all, he's an ass a lot of the time, but when she realizes what's been going on around her, she steps up to help. To do the right thing by MoonBound clan. She has no one else since everyone else has betrayed her, and even if they set out with intentions that would lead to her demise, they at least kept their word. Not only does Nicole stand up for herself, but she also stands up to Riker, making it clear she is not going to play second fiddle to the memory of his dead wife. She took as good as she got from Riker, which was what he liked so much about her.

I'm sold on this series. It's a refreshing take on vampires, there seems to be some great world building in the process, and I'm already itching to know more about Hunter and Myne.
